The state of Maine has a rich heritage of marathoning history. Maine has hosted 17 separate
named marathons. Several were more or less the same event with a different name, some were
completely new races. The first on record we have is a 1908 Marathon held on August 14th in Rockland.
The longest continuously run is the Sugarloaf Marathon, held every year since 1983.
Currently there are 3 great marathons held in Maine, we encourage you to support them all.
In addition to Sugarloaf, we are lucky to have the Maine Marathon, and our Mount Desert Island
Marathon to look forward to every year. Below is a list of mens and ladies champions, their
winning times, and complete results are linked when available (or as complete as we have).
We at the MDI Marathon salute and remember them all, doing a small part to help
preserve the important history of marathon running in our state. They were Champions then and
are still Champions today!
We are missing records for complete results for some races. If anyone can help us with missing information or corrections please
email us.
Special thanks to all our statistics searchers. Thanks!
