DIRECTIONS TO BAR HARBOR:
By Road:
NORTHBOUND- From the Maine / New Hampshire border approx.
3 3/4 hr. to Bar Harbor. Take I-95 north to I-295 through Portland
(The "Old Port" in Portland is a great place to stop for lunch,
also a nice 3.5 mile run on gravel running path around
"Baxter Blvd. / Back Bay" at Forest Ave north exit. Helps get rid of "Car Legs!")
Back on I-295 north which leads back to I-95. Go north through Augusta to Bangor.
Exit at I-395 east toward Brewer / Ellsworth. Exit to Route 1-A east toward Ellsworth.
Straight through High Street Ellsworth to Rt. 3, Bar Harbor Road.
Watch for signs for Acadia National Park.
At traffic light just past bridge to Mount Desert Island bear left on Route 3 which leads straight into Bar Harbor.
SOUTHBOUND- From Houlton Maine / New Brunswick Canada border
approx. 3 hr. to Bar Harbor. Take Interstate 95 south to Bangor exit at
I -395 east toward Brewer / Ellsworth. Exit to Route 1-A east toward Ellsworth.
Straight through High Street Ellsworth to Rt. 3 Bar Harbor Road. Watch for signs for Acadia National Park.
At traffic light just past bridge to Mount Desert Island bear left on Route 3 which leads straight into Bar Harbor.
WESTBOUND- From other points in Canada and all points west refer to many available routes via Dover Foxcroft,
The Sugarloaf Mountain region or other points in Vermont and New Hampshire.
Route 2 is extremely scenic and comes to Bangor then follow directions as above.
By Air:
BAR HARBOR-
Fly to Hancock County Airport (BHB)
in Trenton, ME. Approx. 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor.
It is a smaller type commuter airport with daily service to Boston and points beyond.
Easy and in some cases VERY convenient! Major Car Rentals and Taxis are available.
BANGOR-
Fly to Bangor International Airport
(BGR), approx. 1 hour 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor. It is served by several major
airlines, and car rentals available. Shuttle service is available from Bangor to Bar Harbor using Bar Harbor Shuttle.
(A new discount airline, Allegiant Air,
is providing non-stop flights from Orlando, FL to Bangor International. You must book flights thru Orlando Sanford (SFB), check the Allegiant Air website for details.)
PORTLAND-
Fly to Portland International Jetport
(PWM), approx. 3 hour, 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor.
Many carriers service Portland, including discount carriers jetBlue
and airTran.
Major Car Rentals are available.
By Bus:
We recommend Concord Trailways from Boston, MA and Portland, ME.
They show movies and are very clean and comfortable. Shuttle service is available from Bangor to Bar Harbor using Bar Harbor Shuttle.
By Sea:
From Nova Scotia Canada take "The Cat" from Yarmouth
to Bar Harbor, Maine approx. 2 3/4 hr. (See whales and other marine wildlife!)
You can bring your car or transportation is available to get from the ferry landing to downtown Bar Harbor (1 Mile).
