The Mount Desert Island Marathon will once again host the Public Safety Relay Challenege for recognized public safety departments. The Relay Challenge will feature teams consisting of five department members. Four members will run 6 miles each before handing off to the next, the fifth member will run 2.2 miles to the finish line.
This friendly competition is loosely patterned after the popular tradition of NYPD and NYFD members who annually run in the New York City Marathon with bragging rights going to the winning departments.
The Public Safety Relay Challenge is open to the first 10 teams who enter. All teams must be registered by October 1st.
Entry fees are waived for participating Public Safety Relay squads. In lieu of entry fees, The MDI Marathon encourages individual departments to launch fundraising campaigns around their team's participation in support of the Beyond the Finish Line: Charitable Giving Program.
